New Castle Historical Society House Tour 2010

Share

Each year the New Castle Historical Society hosts “The Castles of New Castle” house tour as a fundraiser. This year we were asked to do designs for two of the five homes. Each home is obviously different and the designs must coordinate with the existing colors and styles as well as the owners preferences.

The first home is rather grand and formal, decorated with more subtle tones. For this home we designed a large arrangement in a footed glass vase in the entry hall to greet visitors as they arrive. The lavender and green colors of the arrangement blend with the surroundings  yet provide enough contrast to  stand on its own. This arrangement incorporated hybrid delphinium, viburnum, leptospermum and dendrobium orchids. Curly willow was used to add more height.

The second home is much smaller and cozier. Our design for this home was to be on display on a dinning table in a completely glass enclosed addition on the back of the home off of the den.  The owners prefer more dramatic colors in their home so we created an arrangement of reds and oranges in a favorite container provided by the owner. The flowers included red charm peonies, pin cushion protea, ranunculus, hypericum and Cherry Brandy roses.
